Unable to verify my university identifier for Azure for Students

2026-08-01T10:12:33.0233333+00:00

Hello Microsoft Support,

I am trying to activate Azure for Students, but I receive the following error:

"We couldn't verify your university identifier."

I am a student at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia and I use my official university email:

******@polytechnic.am

I also have an approved GitHub Student Developer Pack.

Could you please review my eligibility manually or advise me on how to activate Azure for Students?

If necessary, I can provide my student ID card or an enrollment certificate.

Thank you.

    Hello Արա Մուսայելյան Անդրանիկի,

Greetings! Thanks for raising this question in the Q&A forum.

The "We couldn't verify your university identifier" error happens when Microsoft's automated Azure for Students verification cannot confirm your institution and email domain against its academic eligibility database. This is not something you can fix from your side through account settings, since the verification runs against a backend list of recognized institutions rather than checking your email format alone. A few things are worth ruling out before escalating.

Confirm you used your official school email at signup Azure for Students requires you to verify eligibility through your organization's academic email address, not a personal Microsoft account. Make sure you signed up using your @polytechnic.am address directly, not a personal email linked to your university account.

Check that your university is a recognized participant Some institutions are not yet registered in Microsoft's academic verification system, or their domain isn't mapped correctly even though the institution itself is legitimate. This is a backend data issue on Microsoft's side, not something you configured incorrectly.

Submit a manual eligibility review through Azure Support Since automated verification failed, the only path forward is a manual review by the Azure for Students team. Open a support request here:

    • Go to Create an Azure support request
    • Choose Issue type: Billing > Subscription and offer type: Azure for Students
    • In the description, include your university name, your official school email, and note that automated verification failed with "We couldn't verify your university identifier"
    • Attach your student ID card and enrollment certificate as you offered, since manual reviewers typically require this documentation to override the automated check

Alternative route if the support form is unavailable to you You can also raise this through Microsoft general support if you don't yet have a subscription to attach a support request to.

This kind of eligibility mismatch is resolved by Microsoft's backend team confirming your institution manually, not through any client-side troubleshooting step, so raising a support request with your documentation attached is the correct and fastest path here.

If this answer helps you kindly accept the answer which will help others who have similar questions.

    Best Regards,

    Jerald Felix.
