Contact synchronization between New Outlook and Google is not working. 450 pre-existing Google contacts do not appear and cannot be searched in New Outlook. Adding a new contact in New Outlook does not appear in Google Contacts either. Is this a known issue?

    Update 2026-08-02 10:56 UTC:

    Contact sync seems to be coming back on-line. Seeing some (not all) changes in Google sync to Outlook. Nothing moving the other way.

    I will assume that you added your Google Account to New Outlook for Windows using the Auto Discovery method, where you just give Outlook your GMail address and it does all of the rest of the setup for you. (i.e. That you did NOT add your Gmail as an IMAP account using the Advanced Setup). If so, then it should certainly be syncing your Google Contacts and Calendar.

    I have been using Calendar and Contact sync between New Outlook for Windows and my Google account for a long time.

    But testing just now, I do see that Contact Sync has stopped working. Old Contacts create in Google are still in New Outlook and vice-versa. But any changes on either side are not syncing.

    My Calendar sync is still working OK. Do you see the same?

    I would suggest you submit an in-app Problem Report:

    • From the main menu: Help -> Feedback
    • {This should open the Help side panel}
    • Select "Report a problem"
    • "Describe your problem ..." -> "New Outlook for Windows Contact sync with Google has stopped."
    • Can we contact you about this feedback -> Yes
    • Collect logs for feedback -> Yes
    • Click [Submit]

    Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

    Unless you are paying for Google Workspace, Outlook uses IMAP to connect with a Google mailbox. IMAP is a mail-only protocol and contacts don't sync. You must export your Google contacts to a CSV file and then you should be able to import that file into new Outlook. There are also third-party tools that are not free which will allow syncing.
