Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Please reply with:
- Whether you are using New Outlook for Windows only, or also Outlook.com in a browser.
- Whether Reminder style is available under Settings > General > Notifications > Calendar.
- Whether the reminder appears in Notification Center after it disappears from the screen.
- Whether this happens with all events or only certain appointments.
Please try these steps:
1) Change New Outlook calendar notifications to Reminder style
In New Outlook, select Settings or View > View settings, then go to General > Notifications.
Under Calendar, make sure notifications are turned on. Then choose the reminder pop-up style and enable sound if needed.
2) Turn off automatic dismissal for past reminders
In the same General > Notifications > Calendar section, check whether Automatically dismiss reminders for past events is enabled.
If you see this option, turn it off.
3) Confirm the default calendar reminder time
Go to Settings > Calendar > Events and invitations.
Under Events you create, check Default reminder, choose the reminder time you want, then select Save if prompted.
4) Check one affected calendar event
Open an affected event in Calendar and confirm the Reminder dropdown is not set to Don’t remind me.
If it is a recurring event, choose View series, then check and save the reminder setting for the whole series.
5) Make Windows notification banners stay visible longer
On Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects.
Open Dismiss notifications after this amount of time, then choose a longer duration. This can help if the reminder appears but disappears too quickly.
6) Check Windows notification and Do not disturb settings
Go to Start > Settings > System > Notifications.
Make sure:
- Notifications are turned on.
- Outlook notifications are allowed.
- Show notification banners is enabled for Outlook.
- Show notifications in notification center is enabled.
- Do not disturb is turned off, unless Outlook reminders are allowed as priority notifications.
7) Check missed reminders in Notification Center
If the reminder disappears before you can click it, press Windows key + N to open Notification Center and check whether the reminder is still listed there.
8) Test from Outlook.com on the web
Sign in to Outlook.com and create a test calendar event with a reminder.
Outlook.com supports notifications that can appear automatically in the app or at the bottom-right of the desktop window. Mail and calendar notification settings is under Settings > General > Notifications.
