Unable to login as administrator on my son's computer

Question

I am trying to allow him to download Java - but I cannot find or remember the password (it is possible that my son set up a password and I did not write it or store it). How do I get in to allow him to download?

Before we proceed, may I ask about the clarification whether your son need approval to download or install a game? If the permission is for downloading, it will be delivered to your email, and you don't have to sign in to your son account to approve it. If the approval is for installation, you can try to use your Microsoft credentials to approve, if your son profile is a standard user, he cannot change the password or PIN of your profile.

Hi,

Windows cannot safely bypass or reveal a forgotten administrator password. If the installation prompt requests an administrator username and password, you must recover the existing administrator account or use another administrator account on the computer.

Try the following:

1. If the administrator uses a Microsoft account: Select I forgot my password on the Windows sign-in screen and complete the identity-verification process. You can also reset the Microsoft account password from another device. Remember that the Windows Hello PIN and Microsoft account password are different.
2. If it is a local Windows account: On the sign-in screen, select the password option, enter an incorrect password if necessary, and choose Reset password. Answer the security questions configured when the account was created. A previously created password-reset disk can also be used.
3. Check for another administrator account: If another administrator account exists on the computer, sign in to it and use it to reset the local account password or approve the Java installation.
4. If there is no other administrator or recovery method: The supported final option is Reset this PC. The Keep my files option preserves personal files but removes installed applications and settings. Back up important files and locate the BitLocker recovery key before resetting an encrypted device.

Avoid third-party password-bypass tools. Microsoft Support cannot retrieve or circumvent a lost Windows password. After recovering access, it is advisable to maintain a separate parent administrator account and keep the child’s everyday account as a standard user.
