documents and photos deleted from my harddrive

Question

I terminated my MS365 subscription and deleted my documents and photos from onedrive. This resulted in my documents and photos being deleted by microsoft without my consent from my personal computer's hard drive. How will microsoft restore my personal property (photos and documents that microsoft copied from my computer) without restoring them to onedrive?

hi Craig, i appreciate your response to my question. i actually resubscribed to onedrive to see if i could restore my files - i was not able to. i even tried to restore onedrive to a previous date and this did not restore my docs and pix. No doubt as part of my leaving MS365 i emptied my onedrive recycle bin.

what disturbs and troubles me is not so much that they are gone from onedrive but that in deleting my files from onedrive, microsoft reached into my computer and deleted my local copies along with it - copies that i never actively granted microsoft permission to sync into the cloud (this power being something the user has to turn off rather than turn on). My current situation is that all my photos (copied to and stored on my computer) and every microsoft document i ever created (most long before there was a cloud) have been erased from my computer.

Hi Beth,

I'm sorry that your files got deleted.

Terminating MS365 reverts OneDrive to a free account. It does not stop OneDrive from syncing files. The settings for turning off folder sync are found in Manage Backup.

It looks like your Documents and Pictures folders were still syncing to OneDrive. You will need to restore your deleted files from the OneDrive recycle bin at onedrive.com.
