Unable to Sign Up for Azure for Students

Hello Microsoft Support,

I'm currently an active university student and I'm trying to sign up for Azure for Students using my official university email address (Microsoft Outlook/Microsoft 365). However, I keep receiving the message that I'm not eligible. I have a few questions:

1. Could you please check why my account is marked as ineligible?
2. Does the "Important notifications" email address have to be the same as my university email, or is it okay to use my personal email for notifications?
3. If using a different email for important notifications affects my eligibility, is it possible to change it?
4. If the issue is related to student verification, could you please let me know what I need to do to complete the verification successfully? For your information, I am 22 years old, I am still an active university student, and I am using my official university email to apply.

I did use my official university email address to sign up and verify my student status. The only different email I used was for the "Important notifications" field because it's the email I check most often.

Oh, in this case I would use the email address you use everyday. For me, all my communications comes to my personal email account as I use this everyday.

No, if you have used your school/university email address inside the school box to verify your account, then that is all that matters. All this is doing is telling Microsoft where you want the email notifications to be delivered to.

You are signing into the form using your personal Microsoft account?

Has anyone else at your university managed to sign-up for the Azure Students subscription?

You can contact Azure Support through the get help & support blade. However, you will need a subscription for this. If you want to contact Azure's billing team, please let me know and I can guide you through what subscription to get and how to reach their support team.

I understand that Azure for Students is no longer required to become a Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador.

The Student Ambassador program has removed the requirement to link your Azure Students subscription to the application form when you apply for the Student Ambassador program. However, they haven't removed the requirement to have the Azure Students subscription.

To join, you must: (a.) be at least 18 years old at time of registration, (b.) be enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution (e.g. college, university), (c.) be an Azure for Students account holder, (d.) not be a previous registrant or Ambassador removed from the Program by Microsoft, and (e.) not be a Microsoft employee or current contractor at any time during the Program. ~ Source: https://mvp.microsoft.com/faq?section=student#student-program-information-7

You still must have an Azure Student subscription for you to be eligible for the program.

if I share Azure for Students-related links using my Contributor ID, will the visitors still be counted toward my onboarding milestones?

Yes. If you are continuing to share student related links using your contributor ID, it will still count towards your onboarding milestones.

However, the problem you are going to have is when you onboard. As part of the onboarding process, you must accept the terms and conditions for the program. This includes accepting you have the Azure Student subscription.

If they find out you do not have an Azure Student subscription but accepted those terms, then they could remove you from the program. What I would recommend doing is speaking to the team by emailing them at sa-help@microsoft.com to discuss the program eligibility and requirements.

Unfortunately, no one on this community is able to tell you why you are not eligible for the Azure Students subscription.

The only thing we can do is suggest why you may not have not met the requirements based of the Azure Students documentation published here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/education-hub/about-azure-for-students

You would need to create a support request to Azure's billing team through the help and support blade here: https://portal.azure.com/#blade/Microsoft_Azure_Support/HelpAndSupportBlade

The only problem you will have is that you do not have an Azure subscription on your tenant or that your Microsoft account is not a member of a tenant with a subscription assigned to it.

Where are you seeing this?

From memory, the form asks for your university email address, which you must provide, so it can send you a verification code to your email. You then follow the link within the verification email which takes you back to the Azure Students sign up form, where you will need to enter the verification code into the sign-up form to continue the sign-up process.

Each time I have signed up, I have never seen an important notifications email address box.

If you are meaning the box that asks for your school email address. If you didn't use the school/university email address inside that box, then the verification would fail as soon as you hit submit.

To change this, you would sign-up for the Azure Students again on a new sign-up form through this website: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/free/students

When you sign-up for the Azure Student subscription, the form asks you to enter your school email address. This must be provided. When you click onto submit, the form then verifies the university email address, then sends you a verification code to the address.

When you click onto the email received, it will provide the verification code you must copy and a link you must click onto. This link will open the Azure sign-up form again with your information already populated. You then enter the verification code into the verification code textbox which is marked as optional.

After you have done this, you submit the form again, and Azure completes the verification process. If you are eligible, and it is your first time. The tenant is created using your Microsoft personal account. Your Microsoft personal account is added as an administrator to that tenant. The subscription is then applied to that tenant and your account is added as the subscription owner.

During this process, your Microsoft account is added as a billing scope and a Microsoft Online Services Agreement (MOSA) is created, where you can manage payment and bulling for the subscription. The Azure credits are applied to the MOSA agreement and assigned to the Azure Students subscription.

Then you are able to use the credits that come with the subscription to pay for the resources you have used.

For your information, I am 22 years old, I am still an active university student, and I am using my official university email to apply.

Age doesn't matter for this program. All Microsoft care about is:

1. You are a registered full-time student at University or College,
2. You are over 18 years old,
3. You meet the requirements for the subscription found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/education-hub/about-azure-for-students#prerequisites
