Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Dear @Carol Law,
I completely understand how urgent it is to regain control of your account, manage your software, or cancel your subscription without being blocked by administrator permission errors.
This issue typically happens when a Microsoft 365 Business subscription is created with an automatically generated initial domain (@yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com), or when the account signed into your browser is a personal Microsoft account (or secondary profile) rather than the newly created work/tenant administrator account.
Step 1: Locate Your Work Administrator Credentials & Use Private Browsing
When you purchased Microsoft 365 Business, a dedicated administrator account was created for your tenant.
- Open an InPrivate / Incognito window in your browser (press
Ctrl + Shift + NorCmd + Shift + N). This prevents your browser from automatically logging you in with existing personal credentials. - Go to Microsoft 365 Administration
- Sign in using the original account created during purchase (this is often formatted as
******@yourcompany.onmicrosoft.comor your business email assigned during setup). - Check your original order confirmation email from March 6 for the username ending in
.onmicrosoft.com.
Step 2: Perform an Admin Takeover (If Locked Out or Unassigned)
If your custom domain is attached to the tenant but your user account lost Global Admin rights, you can perform an Internal or External Admin Takeover to gain full control:
- Go to Microsoft 365 Administration and enter your custom domain email address.
- If prompted that you need admin rights, select Become an admin or Need help signing in?.
- Microsoft will ask you to verify ownership of your domain by adding a TXT DNS record at your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).
- Once verified, Microsoft automatically elevates your account to Global Administrator.
Since you are currently unable to cancel or manage subscriptions via the portal, you need direct intervention from Microsoft’s Data Protection Team to verify your credit card/order number and restore your admin privileges manually. Call Microsoft Business Support by phone using the official directory: Contact Microsoft customer support | Microsoft Support
- When the automated IVR asks for your issue, say "Admin lockout" or "Data Protection Team".
- Provide the support agent with your Order Number and the Credit Card used on March 6. They will verify your identity, restore your Global Admin rights, or cancel the subscription and issue refunds directly.
The error preventing you from installing Adobe or Epson software on your PC is likely due to Windows Device Management/Azure AD join restrictions. Go to Windows Settings > Accounts > Access work or school. If you see a work account listed, select it and click Disconnect. Then restart your computer. This removes tenant-level admin restrictions on your local mac
