Microsoft Edge 151.0.4129.59 is inconvenient.

Hello everyone,

I have two computers: one desktop running Windows 10 and one laptop running Windows 11. Recently, both devices were updated to the latest Microsoft Edge version:

Microsoft Edge Version: 151.0.4129.59

After the update, I checked the installation folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\151.0.4129.59

I noticed that the number of files in the new version folder is significantly smaller compared with the previous version:

150.0.4078.105

The update itself completed successfully, and Edge is currently working normally. Browsing, synchronization, and update functions appear to be functioning without issues.

However, I noticed some differences between the old and new Edge version folders.

The previous version (150.0.4078.105) contained some Copilot-related files, including:

• copilot.exe

Some .dat resource files

Some .pak resource files

After updating to 151.0.4129.59, these files are no longer present in the new version folder.

In addition, today I tried to reinstall Microsoft Copilot, but the installation failed with the message:

"You need to download the new version from microsoft.com"

I would like to know:

Is it normal that Microsoft Edge 151.0.4129.59 no longer includes these Copilot-related files?

Were these files removed intentionally as part of the Edge update?

Is Microsoft Copilot now separated from Edge and managed through another update mechanism?

Could the missing files in the Edge folder be related to the Copilot installation issue?

Both computers have the same behavior after updating Edge, so I would like to confirm whether this is an expected change or a possible update issue.

You should still find all the copilot related files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeCore\151.0.4129.59

Since Edge works normally on both computers, the smaller installation folder does not appear to indicate a damaged update. Files inside Edge’s versioned folders can change between releases, and they should not be copied back manually.

However, Microsoft’s release notes for version 151.0.4129.59 do not confirm why those specific Copilot files were removed or whether this was an intentional packaging change. The published known-issues list also does not identify this as a current issue.

The Copilot installation message does not necessarily establish a connection with the missing Edge files. I suggest downloading Copilot only through the current official Microsoft source indicated by the message.

If that installation still fails, could you confirm:

• Where you downloaded the installer.
• Whether Microsoft Copilot appears under Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
• The exact error shown when using the current installer.

This should help separate an outdated installer issue from the unrelated Edge folder change.
