Following a software update (assumed) the MediaTek wireless network card fails to start. I've only had this Minisforum mini pc for 2 months, but it seems that these cards have many reported issues. I have tried all the fixes from Copilot but with no success, is there a fix that works or should I try replacing the MediaTek card with an Intel alternative?
The best first option is to go to the support page for your mini PC on the manufacturers website to download and reinstall (not udpate) the version of Chipset drivers and MediaTek WiFi (WLAN) drivers they provide to test if that resolves the problem.
If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.
I tried this downloaded the appropriate package and tried to install. However Windows 11 thinks it knows better and merely says that the best possible driver for the system is already installed! Can I override this somehow?
Download the installer for the WiFi drivers, then open Device Manager and uninstall the current drivers, you will be asked if you want to delete the drivers, choose Yes, then use the installer you downloaded to reinstall the drivers.
I open Device Manager and the options I have are Update Driver/ Disable Device or Uninstall Device. Update driver is the option I took previously, Disable device doesn't affect drivers and Uninstall merely removes device until next restart?
If you uninstall the device, then immediately use the installer to install the version of drivers you downloaded without restarting the PC, does that work to install the drivers.
Device uninstalled, but how do I install the drivers as it's now as it's not an .exe file, but multiple file types (.dat/ .dll/ .inf/ .cat/ .sys/.bin) and I don't have a starting point (i.e. the old device).
What type of file downloaded for the driver, was that a zip file that needed to be extracted, if so, when you extract the file, there should be a file in there named Setup.
If not, please provide a screenshot of the files you have downloaded.
That is a very strange driver installer.Open Device Manager.
Select any device category.
On the top menu select Action - Add Legacy Hardware.
Click Next.
Choose Install hardware I manually select from a list.
There should be an option to install drivers form a location you select, then navigate to the WIFI&BT Driver folder you downloaded and Windows should find the co0rrect driver in the folder.
This is a conundrum. I followed the steps you kindly provided and windows is looking for .inf files of which there are one in each section of the files I have downloaded, but Windows doesn't accept any of them!

Okay, select any device and at the top of Device Manager, select Action - Scan for hardware changes, is Windows able to find and download a new MediaTek WiFi driver automatically.
Well it found the MediaTek 6E MT7902 and installed with driver 3.3.0.972 (as opposed to 3.6.0.1425 that was last installed), but still no WiFi.
Please provide a screenshot of the Network Adapters section in Device Manager after that version of the driver was installed, I think there may be a problem with that MediaTek WiFi card and it may need to be replaced.

Try this process to see if you can get the WiFi connection working.
Click your Start Button, type cmd and choose Command Prompt
Run this command and hit Enter:
ipconfig /flushdns
Run this command and hit Enter:
ipconfig /registerdns
Run this command and hit Enter:
netsh winsock reset
Run this command and hit Enter:
netsh int ip reset
Close Command Prompt
Open the Settings App
Go to Network and Internet
Click the Network Reset button
Wait for your PC to automatically restart after 5 minutes, do not manually restart your PC.
Followed steps detailed and waited for PC to restart, unfortunately still no WiFi.
When you click the network icon on the bottom right of your screen, flight mode is disabled, and is there no list of network connections available, or is there no indication of WiFi on your system?
No indication of WiFi on the system, although Bluetooth shows as on (part of same adapter.
Thank you for the screenshot, Windows is not seeing a WiFi connection at all on your system, I think your WiFi card will need to be replaced.
I have contacted my supplier and await their reply with interest, although the card itself is not expensive I have not looked at how difficult it is to fit in the mini pc (although I fitted one in my previous all in one). Very tempted to replace with Intel in view of how many negative comments I have seen about these MediaTek cards online.
