Hello,

I was planning to add my phone number as one of my sign in preference but the "add buttons" for a phone number seems to be missing, only the email option

Hi,

If the Phone Number option is missing and only Email is available as a sign-in preference, try the following:

Verify that a phone number has already been added and verified in your account settings.

Sign out and sign back in after adding or updating your phone number.

Try accessing your account from a different browser or in a private/incognito window to rule out a browser-related issue.

If you're using an organization-managed account, check with your administrator, as phone number sign-in may be disabled by policy.

Is this a personal account or a work/school account?

Have you already added and verified your phone number on the account?

For personal Microsoft accounts, Microsoft now says you can no longer add a phone number as a new security method. Their current support article states: “For increased security, you can no longer add a phone number” when adding a new way to verify sign-in.
