Hi everyone — I’m reporting a major regression in Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview build 29639.1000.rs_prerelease.260724‑1553 that breaks Thunderbolt‑tunneled USB devices, specifically Realtek USB‑Audio inside Thunderbolt docks.

Hardware Setup:

  • Laptop: Dell XPS 15 7590 (Intel Titan Ridge TB3 controller)

Dock: Plugable Thunderbolt 4 Dock (TBT4‑UD5)

Affected Device: Realtek USB‑Audio

Hardware ID: USB\VID_0BDA&PID_498A&MI_00

Driver: usbaudio2.inf — Version 10.0.29639.1000 (Microsoft Inbox USB Audio Class 2.0)

Symptoms:

Realtek USB‑Audio inside the dock fails to enumerate

Device Manager shows: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Device flags include: DN_HAS_PROBLEM, DN_DISABLEABLE, DN_NT_ENUMERATOR, DN_NT_DRIVER

USB selective suspend is missing from ALL power plans

Thunderbolt USB tunneling becomes unstable

Other USB devices in the dock intermittently fail or disappear

Reproduction Steps:

Connect Plugable TBT4‑UD5 dock to Dell XPS 15 7590

Boot Windows 11 Insider Preview build 29639.1000

Open Device Manager → Universal Serial Bus controllers

Realtek USB‑Audio appears as “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)”

Inbox driver (usbaudio2.inf 10.0.29639.1000) loads but device remains unusable

Expected Behavior: Thunderbolt‑tunneled USB devices should enumerate normally and bind to USB Audio Class 2.0.

Actual Behavior: Descriptor request fails, device remains in faulted state, audio interface unusable.

Impact: Thunderbolt docks relying on Realtek USB‑Audio cannot function on this build. Regression affects audio, peripherals, and USB stability.

This issue began immediately after updating to build 29639.1000 and does not occur on previous Insider builds. Rolling back resolves the problem.

Would appreciate confirmation from other users and visibility from Microsoft engineers.

    Hi Eagle,

Build issues get reported using the

Feedback Hub. FBH is where the Microsoft

    Engineers will see it.
