Office Apps (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point) closing abruptly

Good morning Everyone,

I am experiencing a recurrent issue. While working with Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, the apps are closing abruptly. I am working on OneDrive cloud all the time. I already did the Excel /Safe mode protocol, I reinstalled Office twice, I removed two apps that I thought were causing the issue (InfoPath 2013 and MS Project 2019), and the issue is still happening.

One common situation is that the closing or shutdown always occurs when I perform a modification on the App that requires saving or an update.

I would appreciate it if someone could give me a solution for this issue.

    Hello GONZALEZ Rene TS.ca

I understand how disruptive this is, especially when several Office applications close without displaying an error.

To narrow down the cause, could you please confirm:

    • Your Windows version and the exact Office version/build shown under File > Account > About
    • Whether the apps also close when you create and save a new file to a local folder outside OneDrive
    • Whether OneDrive shows any sync errors when you select its cloud icon in the taskbar
    • Whether the same files can be edited and saved normally through Office for the web

Meanwhile, please make sure to update both Office and OneDrive. In an Office app, select File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.

If local files save normally and the issue occurs only with OneDrive files, resetting OneDrive would be the next appropriate test. Resetting OneDrive does not delete the files, but it rebuilds its synchronization connections.

Please feel free reply back to this post to update me on this issue further, I'll be happy to help.
