Hi GS,
I can understand how frustrating this change is, especially when your previous workflow allowed you to keep several snips open and return to them later.
To narrow this down, could you confirm what happens after you take a new screenshot? Does the latest snip replace the one already open in Snipping Tool or does the snip disappear completely when you switch to another app? Also, are you using Windows + Shift + S or opening Snipping Tool first and selecting New?
In the meantime, please try the following:
- Open Snipping Tool > Settings and make sure Automatically save original screenshots is enabled. You can then find recent captures in Pictures > Screenshots without manually saving each one.
- Check whether Snipping Tool offers an option such as Open each screenshot in a new window and enable it if available.
- Press Windows + V to use Clipboard history. If it is not enabled yet, Windows will offer an option to turn it on. This may help you retain and revisit multiple recent captures.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Snipping Tool > Advanced options, then try Repair. You can also check the Microsoft Store for any available Snipping Tool updates.
Screenshots taken with Windows + Shift + S are copied to the clipboard, and selecting the notification should open the capture in the Snipping Tool editor.
Going back to an older Snipping Tool version is generally not a reliable long-term workaround because the app is maintained through Microsoft Store updates. If the new design no longer supports the workflow you relied on, I would also recommend submitting the details through Feedback Hub under Apps > Snipping Tool, including how the change affects your productivity. Thank you so much for your understanding.
