Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi L Moore,
Good day, and thank you for taking the time to explain your concern.
To provide some context, Microsoft maintains personal accounts and work accounts as separate identities, even when both accounts belong to the same individual. A personal Microsoft account is typically used for consumer services such as Outlook.com and OneDrive Personal, while a work account is intended for business services such as Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and administrative management. Because these account types have different security, licensing, and ownership models, they generally cannot be merged into a single account.
It is completely understandable that managing two separate accounts may feel unnecessary, particularly when you are the sole owner and user of the business. However, the separation of personal and work identities helps ensure that personal services and business resources remain independently managed and secured.
To help minimize sign-in confusion and make it easier to distinguish between the two accounts, you may consider updating the sign-in alias for your personal Microsoft account by following the steps below:
Step 1: Sign into your Microsoft account.
Step 2: Go to Your info in the left-side menu.
Step 3: Scroll down to Account info and click Edit account info.
Step 4: Under Account alias, click Add email.
Step 5: From there, you can either:
- Create a new Outlook.com email address, or
- Add an existing email address as an alias
- Then click Add alias.
Step 6: Click the Make primary link next to your brand new alias. Then select Yes to confirm.
I hope this information helps clarify the situation and addresses your question. Please feel free to let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.
