Parts of word doc have been deleted/did not save

Had a word document that didn’t save properly and is missing random pieces from the document. And not even the most recently added pieces either, some of the first things to the document. The version history is unhelpful and does not contain the version with the complete document and it can’t seem to be located even though auto-save was on. Document is for work and time sensitive.

    Hi Packer,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, it appears that only random portions of the document content are missing. Additionally, this issue does not only affect recently added content but also content that was created during the early stages of the document.

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Check Version History on OneDrive

Please review the Version History in OneDrive instead of Word to determine whether there is a version that contains the complete content of the document.

    1. Check AutoRecover

    In Word, go to:

File > Info > Manage Document > Recover Unsaved Documents

Please review the automatically saved versions and verify whether any of them contain the complete content of your document.

    1. Open the document in Word for the Web

Please open the document using Word for the Web and check whether the content is displayed correctly and completely.

After completing the steps above, please let me know whether the issue has been resolved.

I look forward to hearing from you.
