Nord VPN. How can I stop this program from interfering with Edge?

Since I started using NordVPN it is interfering with when I start Edge. It doesn't open on the Edge screen and then takes up to 5 minutes to finally get to the article I'm looking for. I am very seriously thinking of getting rid of Nord.

Welcome Glyn Parry,

I understand how frustrating it can be Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that after installing NordVPN, Microsoft Edge takes a long time to open and does not load webpages correctly until several minutes later.

Before proceeding, could you please clarify:

  • Does the delay happen only when NordVPN is connected, or even when NordVPN is disconnected?
  • Are you using any NordVPN browser extensions in Microsoft Edge?

In the meantime, you can try these steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

Option 1: Disable NordVPN Threat Protection features temporarily

  • Open NordVPN
  • Go to Settings
  • Turn off Threat Protection Pro or Threat Protection
  • Restart Edge and test

Option 2: Disable VPN at startup

  • Open NordVPN Settings
  • Turn off Auto-connect
  • Restart Windows and test Edge before connecting to the VPN

Option 3: Test Edge without extensions

  • Press Windows + R
  • Run: msedge --disable-extensions
  • Check whether Edge opens normally

Option 4: Clear Edge networking data

  • Open Edge Settings
  • Go to Privacy, search, and services
  • Clear browsing data and cached files
  • Restart Edge

Option 5: Update both applications

  • Install the latest version of Microsoft Edge
  • Install the latest version of NordVPN
  • Restart the PC after updating

I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.
