Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Hi Bec Sale
Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.
I’m very sorry to hear that your Microsoft account was compromised and that your identity and bank card may have been used fraudulently. I understand how worrying this situation must be.
You have already taken important steps by changing your password and reporting the incident to your bank and the police. Please also complete the following actions:
- Run a full antivirus or malware scan on every device used to access the account.
- Review your Microsoft account’s recent activity and mark any sign-ins you do not recognize.
- Check your security information and remove any unfamiliar email addresses, phone numbers, aliases, or devices.
- Enable two-step verification and use a new, unique password for this account and any other account that previously used the same password.
- Review Outlook settings for unfamiliar forwarding addresses, connected accounts, inbox rules, or automatic replies.
For the Xbox profile and the Hotmail address allegedly created using your identity, please contact Microsoft Support directly and provide the profile details, the suspected email address, relevant screenshots, approximate dates, and any bank or police reference number through the secure support channel. For your privacy, please do not post your full email address, card details, identity documents, phone number, or police reference number publicly.
Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas only.
You can start with the official Microsoft account recovery and support guidance here:
If the fraudulent card transaction is still pending, please continue working directly with your bank to block or replace the card and dispute unauthorized charges.
I hope you are able to secure your accounts and resolve this quickly.
