Change e-mail address linked to an xBox

I set up my ex-partner's son's xBox on my hotmail account 10 years ago. He's now 19 and wants his xBox linked to his own e-outlook mail account so he no longer has to use my account (and received e-mails with receipts foe vBucks, etc). How do we do this?

Xbox data sits on the MS account itself, and changing the sign‑in email doesn’t change who owns it. if he wants his own MS account on the console, he needs to sign in with his MS account, data and purchases don’t move between accounts.

Use aliases on the existing Microsoft account rather than trying to move Xbox purchases and history to a different Microsoft account.

1. Sign in to the Microsoft account currently used for the Xbox.
2. Go to the account “how you sign in” page: Edit account info.
3. Select Add email.
4. Add the son’s email address as an alias if it is not already associated with another Microsoft account.
5. After it is added, go to Manage how you sign in to your account and select Make primary next to the new address.
6. After the new address is the primary alias, remove the old alias if it is no longer needed.

Important points:

• All aliases use the same Microsoft account, with the same Xbox profile, purchases, subscriptions, contacts, and settings.
• An existing Outlook.com or Hotmail.com address that is already its own Microsoft account cannot be added as an alias to another Microsoft account.
• Microsoft does not support merging Microsoft accounts.
• If the old address is removed and it is a Microsoft-domain alias such as @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, or @msn.com, that alias is permanently deleted and cannot be added to any Microsoft account again.
• If prompted to verify identity and access to the old verification email is no longer available, select I don't have any these and add a phone number to receive the verification code.

If the son already created a separate Outlook.com Microsoft account with his own address, that address cannot simply be attached to the old Xbox-linked Microsoft account. In that case, the practical options are:

• keep using the existing Microsoft account and add a different alias to it, or
• use a different email address that is not already tied to another Microsoft account.
