Additional meeting and call-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for Education
Hi Mike,
When your camera is turned off in a Microsoft Teams meeting, Teams should normally display either your profile picture or your initials. If you are currently seeing a black screen instead, this may indicate a profile image or synchronization issue.
To have your initials appear during meetings:
- Open Microsoft Teams.
- Select your profile picture or initials in the upper-right corner.
- Open your profile settings.
- If a profile picture is assigned, select Remove picture. Teams will then automatically display your initials instead of a photo.
If you continue to see a black screen after removing the profile picture, please try the following:
- Sign out of Teams and sign back in.
- Ensure Teams is updated to the latest version.
- Clear the Teams cache (https://learn.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/microsoftteams/teams-administration/clear-teams-cache)
- Test whether the same behavior occurs in both the Teams desktop application and Teams on the web.
Here’s a resource that provides more insight: Change your profile picture in Microsoft Teams
