My computer was stolen and I had Find my device activated. I can locate it and it gives me the options to lock the device, but when I try it is not successful and says it will email me when it can be locked. Ive been doing this for 2 days. The battery keeps going up and down as if the person is using it and also is updating every few hours.
If you chose the option to lock the device, then when the device is connected to the Internet again, it should then be locked automatically.
You indicate the battery is indicated as increasing and decreasing, is the location of the device also changing on the map on the 'Find My Device' section of your Microsoft account online.

Yes, the computer has moved from different locations and is being charged. It says it will lock but it hasn't. It was stolen from a work location. We don't even need it back we just want to lock it and wipe it.
The notification indicating your will receive an Email when the device can be locked indicates the remote lock command is saved and queued on the cloud server and usually the device would be automatically locked as soon as the device is connected to the Internet.
Also, there is another option, on the link below, you can force a log out on all devices linked to that Microsoft account, that would also protect the data on that device, you would then need to log back into any other devices you currently use with that Microsoft account.
