Having trouble setting up Passkeys

I don't understand Passkeys so was going to set one up to see how they work. I was asked for my PIN, which has been the same for as long as I remember, but I'm being told it's the wrong one. I don't use a PIN to open my computer, is that causing a problem?

Before a passkey can be created, the website or app has to confirm your identity. That's why your PIN is used. A PIN is stored on your device, which makes it a more secure way of identifying you. If you can't confirm your identity, either with a PIN or with some other method that positively identifies you, a passkey can't be created for you.

Passkeys are the most secure way to sign in to any website or app, and they've become an industry standard. On your phone, it uses Face ID or your fingerprint as a passkey sign-in method. Similarly Windows Passkey uses Windows Hello PIN/Biometric to set up.

It asks for the PIN that you use to open your computer, which is typically 4-6 digits. But since you say you directly open the computer without the PIN, it is a bit ambiguous. May I know if someone else uses the same system? If so, it might be asking for their PIN.

I would like to inform you that Windows Passkey is a good feature, although it does not synchronize with your phone or other devices yet if you are not using Edge. I use something like Bitwarden that cross syncs with devices.
