Outlook email does not connect to server. We have multiple emails. The last update was on August 4 for all of the emails. We have flushed the DNS cache.

We use Outlook Classic.

It looks like there was a Microsoft update on August 2.

How do I fix this?

    Hi Dorothy

Thank you for sharing the detailed information about the issue.

As this is a user-to-user community forum, I do not have the ability to directly access or modify your account or service. However, I can provide guidance, recommend next steps, share applicable resources, and direct you to the appropriate support channels so the issue can be investigated further.

Based on the information provided, since multiple email accounts stopped updating around the same time, this may not be isolated to a single mailbox. The issue could be related to the Outlook Classic client, the local Outlook profile, saved authentication credentials, network/security filtering, or a recent Office/Windows update. Flushing the DNS cache was a good initial step, but additional checks are needed to identify the root cause.

Here are some steps you can try:

1/ Confirm whether email works outside Outlook Classic

    • Sign in to Outlook on the web and check whether new emails are showing there.
    • If webmail is working normally, the mail service is likely available, and the issue is more likely related to Outlook Classic, the local profile, credentials, or the device/network.
    • If webmail is also not updating, the issue may be related to the mailbox service or account/server side.

2/ Check Outlook connection status and working mode

    • In Outlook Classic, please check the status in the bottom-right corner.
    • If it shows Working Offline, go to Send/Receive and make sure Work Offline is turned off.
    • User's image

3/ Test Outlook in Safe Mode and review add-ins

    • Close Outlook, press Windows + R, then run: outlook.exe /safe
    • If Outlook connects successfully in Safe Mode, the issue may be caused by an Outlook add-in.
    • Open Outlook normally, go to File > Options > Add-ins > Manage COM Add-ins > Go, then disable any non-essential add-ins.
    • Restart Outlook and test again. If it works, re-enable the add-ins one by one to identify the problematic one.

4/ Reset Outlook credentials and refresh the Outlook profile

    • Close Outlook and go to Control Panel > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials. Remove saved entries related to Office, Outlook, MicrosoftOffice, ADAL, MSOID, or Exchange, then reopen Outlook and sign in again.
    • User's image
    • If the issue continues, create a new Outlook profile from Control Panel > Mail (Microsoft Outlook) > Show Profiles > Add, then add the mailbox again and test synchronization.

5/ Verify Office update/build and test network connection

    • In Outlook, go to File > Office Account > About Outlook and send us the Outlook version and build number. Then check for updates under File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    • If possible, please also test Outlook using a different network, such as a mobile hotspot. This will help determine whether the current network, firewall, VPN, proxy, antivirus, or security filtering is blocking Outlook from connecting to the server.

I hope this information is helpful. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
