Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Hi Jesse,
I greatly appreciate you sharing your experience and I truly understand your concern.
This problem is likely an expected behavior of New Outlook which is related to the main difference between Classic Outlook and New Outlook:
- Classic Outlook has a deep support with COM/MAPI behavior and Windows integration. It can interact more directly with local files, File Explorer drag/drop, MAPI, COM add-ins and Outlook profiles so classic Outlook can perform actions such as:
- Drag a file into a message and attach it as a normal file
- Maintain classic attachment defaults
- Has setting via File > Options > General > Attachment Options
- Can set OneDrive/SharePoint files to Always attach them as copies
- On the other hand, New Outlook is built on a modern service/web architecture using WebView2 which is built around the same kind of experience as Outlook on the web. This architecture is designed for faster updates, consistency across platforms, and better stability, but it also means some classic desktop behaviors are missing.
I understand this isn’t the outcome you were hoping for. As a forum user, I don’t have the visibility into internal design/structure or the ability to modify how the product behaves.
If you see this feature should be improved or this is affecting your workflow, I strongly recommend submitting your feedback through the Outlook · Community. The product development team doesn't actively monitor this forum, so this is the most effective way to ensure your voice reaches the product team and can be considered for future improvements.
Once you've submitted your feedback, feel free to share the link here in the comments. I’ll be happy to upvote it to help bring more visibility.
Additionally, as other users have raised similar concerns and may not be aware of where to share their feedback, I hope this response helps clarify the situation and suggests a potential next step. Highlighting this information can make it more visible to others in the community who may be facing the same issue, making it easier for them to find guidance and contribute their feedback as well.
Thank you again for your time and for raising this important usability concern.
