Copilot button keeps disappearing in Word

Question

My Copilot button keeps disappearing from the HOME ribbon. When I go in and edit the ribbon and turn copilot OFF, then the button appears but it is greyed out. When I turn it back on it disappears. It doesn't matter if I remove buttons. The extra space is taken up by the STYLES group and Copilot does not appear. Copilot is active since when I open a new document the prompt bar will be there, and I can use it, but the button is no longer active.

Microsoft has recently updated the Copilot experience in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Copilot may now appear as the Copilot Dynamic Action Button in the lower-right corner of the document instead of staying as a fixed button on the Home ribbon. 

Since you can still use Copilot from the prompt bar, Copilot appears to be active. The greyed-out ribbon button may be an inactive or legacy command, while the active Copilot entry point is now surfaced through the prompt bar or the Dynamic Action Button. This may explain why changing the ribbon option does not restore an active Copilot button on the Home tab. 

Here are some steps you can try: 

1/ Check for the Copilot Dynamic Action Button 

• Open Word. 
• Open or create a document. 
• Look at the lower-right corner of the document for the Copilot floating button. 

• Click the button to open the Copilot pane. 

2/ Move Copilot back to the ribbon, if available 

• Right-click the Copilot Dynamic Action Button. 
• Select Move to ribbon. 

This should move the Copilot entry point back to the ribbon if your current Word build supports this option. 

3/ Try keyboard shortcuts 

• On Windows, try Alt + C or F6. 
• These shortcuts may help focus or access the Copilot entry point in the document. 

4/ If the Copilot Dynamic Action Button is not visible 

• Update Office to the latest version. 
• Go to File > Account > Update License. 
• Check the Office update channel under File > Account. 
• Verify that connected experiences are enabled under File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings. 
• Confirm that the following options are enabled: 
  • Experiences that analyze your content 
  • All connected experiences

The answer is spot on. Thank you and I see the button. I always tell people, look at the screen. I have neglected my own advise.
