The mouse-over emojis in Teams chat is an annoying feature that throttles productivity, and would like to know how I can get rid of those floating emojis when my mouse cursor goes over a chat

There is no supported setting in the provided Teams documentation to disable the mouse-over reaction bar in chat.

    What is supported:

    • Reactions appear when hovering over a chat message.
    • The quick reactions shown there can be customized.
    • Up to five quick reactions can be chosen.

To change which quick reactions appear:

    1. Hover over any chat message.
    2. Select More reactions.
    3. Select Customize default reactions.
    4. Remove any current reaction by hovering over it and selecting the X.
    5. Add preferred emoji from the gallery.

This changes the quick reactions, but does not remove the hover behavior itself.

    Dear Shr_T3Msg_010,

Good day, I understand having the reaction bar appear every time your cursor passes over a message can certainly be distracting when you are trying to work through a chat quickly. Unfortunately, there is currently no setting in Microsoft Teams to disable the emoji reaction bar that appears on hover. It is enabled by default and cannot be turned off at the user or admin level.

If this is a feature you would like to see, I suggest keeping an eye on the Microsoft Teams blog or the Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365 for any updates on this feature. In the meantime, I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. I also strongly recommend that you share your detailed experience and feedback directly with the Microsoft product team through their official channels. This is the most effective way to make your voice heard and influence future feature improvements and adjustments.

You can visit the Microsoft Teams · Community to submit a new idea or vote on existing one here: Request to disable emoji reactions on hover in Microsoft Teams · Community. I would strongly encourage you to upvote that idea and add your own comments describing how it affects your workflow. The Microsoft product team manages this portal and regularly reviews customer feedback, and the more votes an idea receives, the more attention it tends to get. Many features have been developed or adjusted based on exactly this kind of input. As a moderator, I will also pass your feedback along to the appropriate team for further consideration. While moderators do not directly influence product design, user feedback is genuinely reviewed and helps shape future development. If you are unable to submit feedback yourself, please feel free to let me know and I would be happy to submit it on your behalf.

Thank you for taking the time to raise this. If you found this information helpful, a vote would also be appreciated, as it helps other community members with similar questions find the right channel more quickly.

Please let me know if you need anything else. Have a wonderful day.
