Trusted Signing identity validation "In Progress" for 19 days — no pending actions, recently registered LLC

Our Trusted Signing identity validation has been in progress for more than 7 business days.

The request shows no actions pending on our side, and we have not been contacted for additional documentation.

Details (happy to provide account name and subscription ID privately):

  • Entity type: US limited liability company
  • Jurisdiction: State of Wisconsin, USA
  • Entity registered: June 2026
  • Validation submitted: 17 July 2026
  • Current status: In Progress, no pending actions

One thing that may be relevant: our company was registered in June 2026, shortly before we submitted. I understand identity validation checks the entity against third-party business data sources, and a recently registered company may not yet have propagated into them. If that is the cause, we can supply our Wisconsin registration documents directly — what format would you need?

My questions:

  1. Is 19 days within the expected range at the moment, or does this suggest the request has stalled and needs attention?
  2. Is anything required from us that isn't being surfaced in the portal?
  3. What is the correct route to request a status check? Our subscription's support plan does not offer Trusted Signing as a service category, so we cannot raise a support request against it. This appears to leave no supported path to ask about a stalled validation.

We have not submitted duplicate requests for this entity, and will not, as I understand that does not help.

For context on why this matters to us: we ship a Windows desktop application, and until the certificate is issued every installer triggers a SmartScreen warning, which blocks evaluation by organisations with a no-unsigned-software policy.

Hello @James Conrad

Based on the details you've provided, I don't see an additional action you should be taking in the portal while the request remains In Progress and shows no Action Required status.

Microsoft's current Artifact Signing FAQ specifically says that creating additional identity-validation requests for the same entity while one is already in progress does not help, and validation requests can't be expedited. You've therefore done the right thing by not submitting a duplicate request.

Regarding your three questions:

  1. Is 19 days expected?

I wouldn't assume that the request has failed simply because it has been in progress for 19 days. However, given that you've already exceeded the timeframe you were expecting, there are no outstanding actions shown, and you've received no request for additional documentation, I think it's reasonable to have the validation team check the specific request rather than continue waiting without a status update.

There have been similar cases where Artifact Signing organization validation remained In Progress beyond the expected period. In at least one Microsoft Q&A case, a Microsoft moderator requested the Identity Validation ID privately, the validation team reviewed the request, and the status subsequently changed to Completed.

  1. Could the recently registered LLC be relevant?

Potentially, yes, but only the validation team can confirm whether that's what's holding this particular request.

Because the LLC was registered in June 2026 and validation was submitted on July 17, 2026, it's possible that one or more external business-information sources used during validation don't yet contain consistent information about the entity.

I would not submit additional documents unless the validation process or Microsoft validation team asks for them.

If documents are requested, make sure the legal entity name, registered address, registration information, and other organization details match the authoritative Wisconsin registration records exactly. A Microsoft moderator recently also advised Artifact Signing applicants to use a valid domain associated with the business entity rather than a free-hosted domain.

And I would not upload your Wisconsin registration documents publicly to this Q&A thread. If Microsoft needs them, they should be provided through the appropriate private channel.

  1. How should you request a status check?

Microsoft's official Artifact Signing FAQ says identity-validation assistance can be requested through Azure Support or Microsoft Q&A using the artifact-signing tag. So posting here is one of Microsoft's documented support paths for this particular issue.

Since your Azure support plan doesn't expose Artifact Signing as a selectable service category, I think the appropriate next step here is for a Microsoft moderator to help route the request for review.

You've already provided enough public information to establish the issue. I would keep the following available for private message/support communication:

  • Artifact Signing account name
  • Identity Validation ID
  • Azure Subscription ID
  • Tenant ID
  • Date/time validation was submitted
  • Legal entity name

Don't post the Subscription ID, Tenant ID, business documents, or other sensitive identifiers publicly unless a Microsoft moderator specifically provides an appropriate private mechanism.

For the Microsoft Moderator

Could a Microsoft moderator please contact James through private message to obtain the Identity Validation ID and have the Artifact Signing validation team check the status of this request?

The organization validation has been In Progress since July 17, 2026, there is currently no Action Required in the portal, no request for additional documentation has been received, and no duplicate validation requests have been submitted.

Given that similar long-running In Progress cases have previously required the validation team to review the specific validation ID, a status check seems appropriate here rather than asking the customer to resubmit the validation.
