If this is a work or school account, try these steps in order:

  1. On the sign-in screen, select Sign in another way or I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now.
  2. If available, use another verification method such as SMS, phone call, or email.
  3. If no other method is available, contact the organization’s IT admin/help desk and ask them to:
    • Require re-register multifactor authentication
    • Revoke existing MFA sessions
  4. After the reset, remove the old account from Microsoft Authenticator and sign in again to set it up from the beginning.

If the app is installed but sign-in still does not complete, also check these common causes:

  • Unlock Microsoft Authenticator before trying again.
  • Make sure app notifications are enabled and not silent.
  • Update to the latest Authenticator version.
  • Check internet connectivity; switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data can help.
  • Verify the device date and time are correct.

If there were many failed attempts, Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication can temporarily block more attempts. In that case, wait and try again later, use a different MFA method if available, or ask an IT administrator to review the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs.
