Signed into our 365 account as global administrator to reactivate expired licenses.

The license page states "You need a Microsoft Entra ID Premium license to use this feature"

We are a small charity with a limited number of users; I am trying to take over the Admin and reactivate licenses. Do not understand Entra ID Premium requirement - we just need to reactivate basic 365 apps.

    Hi West,

    I hope you're doing well.

I'm following up on this thread to check whether you need any further assistance.

In the meantime, I'd like to share some additional information in case the issue is related to accessing the Office desktop applications.

Microsoft has discontinued the Microsoft 365 Business Premium Grant and Office 365 E1 Grant for nonprofit organizations upon renewal. Eligible nonprofits can still receive Microsoft 365 Business Basic grant licenses, which include web-based applications only. As a result, this may explain why the Office desktop applications are no longer available in your organization.

For more information, please refer to:

    ANNOUNCEMENT: Microsoft 365 Business Premium & Office 365 E1 grant discontinuation | Microsoft Commu…

If your organization requires continued access to the Office desktop applications, you may want to consider purchasing a nonprofit subscription to Microsoft 365 Business Standard or Microsoft 365 Business Premium:

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions or need further clarification. I'd be happy to assist further.

    Hi West,

    Thank you for your response.

From your latest update, it sounds like you were able to access the subscription details and can see that the Non Profit Portal subscription is showing as Active.

In this case, there would normally be no Reactivate option to select, as Reactivate is only applicable when a subscription has expired or been cancelled.

At this point, you may follow the steps below to determine your current licensing situation.

1/ If the subscription should contain more than one license

If your expectation is that the organization should have enough licenses for around seven users, the first step would be to verify how many licenses are currently included in the subscription.

Please check the Assigned, and Available license counts under:

    • Billing > Licenses

and note the Assigned, and Available license counts.

For example, if the Assigned count shows 1/7, this means the organization has a total of 7 licenses for that subscription, and 1 license is currently assigned to a user. That user should be able to access and use the Microsoft 365 services included in the license.

The Available count represents the number of licenses that have not yet been assigned. Using the example above, if 1 out of 7 licenses has been assigned, there should be 6 available licenses remaining that can be assigned to other users.

This information will help determine whether your organization still has licenses available for additional users, or whether additional licenses may be required.

2/ If you would also like to see a list of users and verify whether a particular user has a license assigned, please follow these steps:

This will show whether the user currently has a Microsoft 365 license assigned and which license(s) are assigned to that user.

3/ If there are multiple users, but only one user currently has a license assigned

If the Available count confirms that there are sufficient licenses for your users, if needed, you can assign the remaining licenses by following these steps:

    • In Billing > Licenses
    • Select your subscription
    • Click Assign licenses
    • Enter the user's email address and complete the assignment.
    • Repeat these steps for each user who requires a license.

I hope the information was somewhat helpful in addressing your concern. Let me know if you need further clarification.

    Hi West,

The message "You need a Microsoft Entra ID Premium license to use this feature" usually appears when you have landed on a feature within the Microsoft Entra admin center that requires additional premium identity licensing, rather than the standard Microsoft 365 license management experience.

To reactivate your Microsoft 365 licenses for basic apps, try the following:

I hope this information helps clarify the situation. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance.
