    Hi David Hall,

To help narrow down the best solution, could you please let me know:

    1. Are you using a Microsoft account or a local account to sign in?
    2. Do you still know your account password, or have you forgotten both the password and the PIN?
    3. Do you see an "I forgot my PIN" option on the sign-in screen?

With that information, we can suggest the most appropriate next steps. Hope to hear back from you soon.

In the meantime, as suggested by AI answer, you can reset the PIN from the sign-in screen or sign in using your account password and create a new PIN afterward.

Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

If the laptop is at the Windows sign-in screen, reset the PIN there:

    1. Under the PIN box, select I forgot my PIN if it appears.
    2. If there are multiple accounts on the device, select the account that needs the reset.
    3. Follow the prompts to verify the account and create a new PIN.

If I forgot my PIN does not appear:

    1. Select Sign-in options.
    2. Choose Enter your password and sign in with the account password.
    3. After signing in, open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    4. Select PIN (Windows Hello).
    5. Select I forgot my PIN to reset it, or Change PIN if the old PIN is known.

If both the PIN and password are forgotten:

    • For a Microsoft account, select I forgot my password at the sign-in screen, or use Sign-in options > Web sign-in, then select Forgot my password.
    • From a browser, the Microsoft account password can also be reset here: Reset password
    • For a local account, at the sign-in screen select the password entry button, select OK > Reset password, and answer the security questions. If a password reset disk was created earlier, select Use a password reset disk.

A USB recovery stick is not required for these PIN reset methods.
