One Drive Sync.Service exe-Bad Image (Error status message)

I have started receiving the error message

"One Drive Sync Service exe-Bad Image

C/Users/Owner/AppData/Local/Microsoft/OneDrive/Codecs/8.1.2/avutil-60.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0x.c0e9000.2."

Please advise.

Thank you.

Wasn't sure if I should have posted my reply in the Comment or Answer sections, so I decided to do both :

I got the same problem and it's annoying. The window wouldn't go away on its own.

After having searched Microsoft website for help, I read someone in the Microsoft community (in another thread) suggesting holding Windows and R keys and then typing - %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\OneDrive.exe /reset

The process should take 1-2 minutes. Then you can click on the window, it should be able to close.

It's not a permanent fix, but it does help get rid of the annoying "window".

Then, you'll have to repeat it again because the window is going to re-appear after midnight (or, when the next day begins).

In my case, deleting the OneDrive and reinstalling didn't work, because my laptop works in S mode, which means it can only download apps from the official Microsoft Store, that "conveniently" does not have OneDrive available anymore. The file is now available only from the external source, which my computer cannot download from!! If Microsoft team reads my answer, maybe they could help and put the program back in the Microsoft Store, that would save a lot of users a headache, like in my case.

Regarding the Window error message I was receiving, after I told the tech I am in S Mode he told me not to change, so I left it in S mode. After awhile I stopped getting the error message and it seems fine now. I don't know why.

    Just glad it's working now.

Error code 0xc0e90002 and the "onedrive.sync.service.ee – Bad image" dialog indicate a damaged OneDrive installation or corrupted system files.

Important: If you're using Windows S Mode, please do not try the following.

Please uninstall and reinstall OneDrive to fix the issue.

    • Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
    • Find Microsoft OneDrive and select Uninstall.
    • After uninstall completes, rename the following folder to Codecs.old:
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\Codecs

    Edit: Added S Mode warning.

I'm still getting the OneDrive.Sync.Service.exe-Bad Image message.

I'm getting other people telling me that they tried your advice and now they can't reinstall OneDrive.

So I was able to use laptop for awhile but now coming back.

Can another microsoft tech help me?
