If old email is not loading in Outlook for Mac, use this check sequence:
- In Outlook, open the Outlook menu and make sure Work Offline is not checked.
- On the Tools ribbon, select Accounts and check the Exchange account status in the left pane. If the indicator is orange, Outlook is not connected to the Exchange server.
- If the account worked before, try signing in through Outlook on the web to confirm the mailbox is available.
- If mail still does not sync, empty the Outlook cache for the affected Exchange folder.
- Right-click the Exchange folder.
- Select Properties.
- On the General tab, choose Empty Cache.
- Outlook will download the latest items from the Exchange server again.
Caution: Emptying the cache deletes any information that is not synchronized with the Exchange server, including contacts' mail certificates. Back up Outlook data first if needed.
If the missing mail is expected to be in an Online Archive, check whether the Online Archive folder appears in the Outlook folder pane. In Outlook for Mac, only archived mail items are supported there. Calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes stored in the archive are not viewable in Outlook for Mac.
If the Online Archive is missing in new Outlook for Mac, install the latest Office for Mac updates. A known issue preventing access to Online Archive was fixed in Office for Mac version 16.57.
