On your phone, have you enabled the Network Hotspot in the network settings.

Then on your laptop, click the network icon at the bottom right on your taskbar, click WiFi, then in the list of available WiFi networks, you should see your phone as an option to connect to.

If the laptop is not getting internet through Wi-Fi, start with these checks:

    1. On the laptop, select the Network, Sound, or Battery icon on the taskbar.
      • Make sure Wi‑Fi is turned On.
      • Check whether the network name shows Connected.
    2. Check Airplane mode on the laptop:
      • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Airplane mode.
      • Make sure it is Off.
    3. Test the Wi‑Fi network with another device.
      • Since the phone connects, the Wi‑Fi router is likely working.
      • If needed, turn on the phone’s mobile hotspot and try connecting the laptop to that hotspot. If the laptop connects there, the issue is likely with the laptop’s connection to the home Wi‑Fi.
    4. Run the Windows network troubleshooter:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Network and Internet > Status.
      • Select Network troubleshooter.
      • Follow the on-screen steps.
    5. If the laptop still will not connect, reset the network stack. This requires Command Prompt as administrator.
      • Select Search, type command prompt, then choose Run as administrator.
      • Run these commands in order:
        • netsh winsock reset
        • netsh int ip reset
        • ipconfig /release
        • ipconfig /renew
        • ipconfig /flushdns
      • Note: these commands reset network settings and may temporarily disconnect the laptop until reconnection completes.

If the goal is to use Phone Link sync between the phone and laptop, both devices must also be:

    • turned on
    • connected to the same Wi‑Fi network
    • connected to the internet

For Phone Link specifically, also check:

    • On the PC: Phone Link > Settings > About > Check for updates
    • On Android: Link to Windows > Settings > Check for updates
    • Turn Battery saver Off on both devices if possible, because it can interfere with syncing.
    • If a VPN, firewall, public Wi‑Fi, or work network is in use, it may block communication between the phone and PC.
