Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
You can reset the laptop to factory settings without losing your Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription, provided that you know the email address and password associated with your Microsoft 365 account.
Your Microsoft 365 Business Standard license is tied to your Microsoft 365 account in the cloud, not to the laptop itself. Resetting or reinstalling Windows will not cancel the subscription or remove the license from your Microsoft 365 tenant.
Before resetting, I recommend:
- Back up any local files that are not already stored in OneDrive or another cloud location.
- Make sure you know your Microsoft 365 account credentials and have access to your authentication method (Microsoft Authenticator, phone number,...).
- If you use Outlook and have any locally stored PST files, back them up as well.
After the reset:
- Complete the Windows setup.
- Sign in with the account you want to use on the PC (personal Microsoft account or work account).
- Install Microsoft 365 Apps by signing in at https://www.office.com with your Microsoft 365 Business Standard account.
- Add your work email and personal email to Outlook as needed.
If your main concern is that multiple domains or work/school accounts were added to Windows, a full factory reset may not be necessary. You may be able to remove unwanted work or school accounts by going to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and disconnecting the accounts you no longer want associated with the device.
If the device configuration has become complicated and you prefer a clean start, performing a factory reset is a valid option and will not affect your Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription.
However, depending on how the device is configured, Windows may require administrator credentials or account authentication to complete the reset process. Before proceeding, make sure you know the sign-in credentials for your Windows and Microsoft 365 accounts and have access to any Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods associated with them.
After the reset, you will need to sign in again with your Microsoft 365 Business Standard account to reinstall and activate the Microsoft 365 Apps and access your business data.
I hope this information helps.
