This behavior usually means both apps are configured to start automatically when signing in.
For WhatsApp and other startup apps registered in Windows:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Startup.
- Find WhatsApp and turn it Off if it should not open automatically.
- Check whether Windows Terminal is listed there and turn it Off if present.
A second way to check the same startup list is Task Manager:
- Right-click Start and select Task Manager.
- Open the Startup apps tab.
- Select WhatsApp or Windows Terminal.
- Choose Disable.
If Windows Terminal still opens, check its own startup setting:
- Open Windows Terminal.
- Open its Startup settings.
- Make sure Launch on machine startup is disabled.
- In
settings.json, this setting is startOnUserLogin, and it should be set to false.
If an app is not shown in Startup settings or Task Manager, check the Startup folder:
- Press Start and select Run.
- Type
shell:appsfolder and press Enter.
- Open Run again.
- Type
shell:startup for the current user, or shell:common startup for all users, and press Enter.
- Remove the shortcut for WhatsApp or Windows Terminal from that Startup folder if present.
If this started immediately after changing startup items, these locations are the most likely cause.
