I have to send in my laptop for servicing and the company is asking to disable the login screen that I have set up with a password to bypass it. I do not know how to do that. I have searched in the account screen and do not see anywhere to disble it. I also have run the windows button + R key; "netplwiz" and disabled the feature. However, upon restarting the laptop it is still requiring a password, even thought I left that blank in the "netplwiz" screen. Please help. #TIA

    Hi CSULA21

    Don't remove login password.
Create a new administrator user with no password, which you will delete when servicing is done.
When you'll send the pc out, login with the new user and shutdown.

If netplwiz is still prompting for a password after restart, use the standard auto sign-in path for Microsoft-account sign-in:

    1. Open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    2. Turn off For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended).
    3. Open Run with Windows key + R, type netplwiz, and press Enter.
    4. Select the account.
    5. If Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer is already cleared, first check it, select Apply, then clear it again and select Apply.
    6. In the prompt that appears, remove the prefilled username and enter the full Microsoft account email address as the username, then enter the Microsoft account password.
    7. Select OK, then restart and test.

If the device uses a local account instead of a Microsoft account, the password can also be removed from:

    1. Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    2. Select Password > Change.
    3. Enter the current password.
    4. Leave the new password fields blank.
    5. Complete the wizard.

Security note: removing or bypassing sign-in means anyone with physical access to the laptop can access files, saved passwords, and email. For a service visit, that reduces protection significantly.
