    Hi Cheryl,

Have you tried using the HP Smart app?

Try this Windows 11 path first to get the scanner detected again:

    1. Power cycle the printer/scanner.
      • Turn off the HP printer.
      • Unplug it for 30 seconds.
      • Plug it back in and turn it on.
    2. Verify Windows still sees the scanner.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Check whether the HP device is listed.
      • Select the printer. If Windows detects scanning, Scanner settings should appear.
    3. If the device is missing, re-add it.
      • In Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, use Add a printer or scanner.
      • Wait for Windows to search.
      • Select the device and choose Add device.
    4. If it is a USB-connected scanner, confirm the local scanner install steps.
      • Make sure the USB cable is connected directly to the PC and the scanner is turned on.
      • In Printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner and let Windows search for locally connected devices.
    5. If the printer appears but scanning still does not work, check whether Windows recognizes the scanner portion.
      • In Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the printer.
      • If Scanner settings is not shown, Windows is not detecting the scanner function correctly.
    6. If Windows detects the printer but not scanning, reinstall the manufacturer software.
      • For HP multifunction devices, properly installing the printer software can resolve scanning problems.
      • If the issue continues after Windows detection steps, contact HP support for the exact model-specific package and setup steps.
    7. If none of the above works, contact the printer manufacturer for model-specific support.
      • Search the manufacturer support site for the exact printer model.
      • If the problem continues, submit feedback through Start > Feedback Hub > Report a problem.

For scanning legal documents, the key checkpoint is whether Scanner settings appears for the device in Windows 11. If it does not, Windows is seeing the printer but not the scanner component.
