How do I get rid of the fingerprint log in on my laptop? I would prefer to use a passkey or PIN.

    Hi Sandra Stevenson

Have you got the chance to give the AI suggestions a try? If you haven't already, please give those a try.

If your goal is to use passkeys, you can remove Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) and keep PIN (Windows Hello) enabled. Windows passkeys can be protected and accessed using Windows Hello verification, including a PIN, so you do not need to keep fingerprint sign-in enabled to use passkeys.

To stop using fingerprint sign-in and use a PIN instead on Windows 11:

    1. Open Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    2. Under Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello), select Remove.
    3. If a PIN is not already set, in the same Sign-in options page, use PIN (Windows Hello) to set one up.

If fingerprint recognition is unreliable before removing it, Windows also supports removing and setting it up again from the same path.

If the goal is to use a security key instead of fingerprint, Windows 11 also supports that:

    1. Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    2. Select Security Key.
    3. Select Manage and follow the instructions.

For passkeys used to sign in to Microsoft Entra ID in a browser on Windows, the sign-in flow uses Windows Security and Windows Hello verification such as face, fingerprint, or PIN. On the sign-in page, select Other ways to sign in or Sign-in options, then select Face, fingerprint, PIN, or security key.
