Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hi Steffany,
I understand your inbox view in Classic Outlook for Windows changed unexpectedly, and you’re now seeing only one column - showing your own name - instead of the usual layout with your message list on the left and the email body on the right.
This can happen if Outlook accidentally switches column settings. Please try the steps below to reset your Outlook view:
- Go to your Inbox
- On the ribbon, select View
- Click Reset View > Yes
- Still under View, select Reading Pane > Right (This restores the standard two‑column layout.)
Optional: View > Change View > Compact
- Compact = modern two‑line message list (Sender above Subject)
- Single = classic table layout with columns
The issue often happens because Outlook switched the first column from From to To. In your Inbox, the To field will always display your name, making it look like every message is “from” you.
If the first column still shows your name (swap columns):
- Go to View > View Settings > Columns…
- Under Show these columns in this order, make sure From is listed and move it to the top using Move Up
- Remove To (or move it below From)
- Select OK > OK.
This should restore the correct sender column.
If the view still won’t reset:
You can fully refresh all Outlook views:
- Close Outlook
- Press Windows Key + R
- Type: outlook.exe /cleanviews
- Press Enter
After Outlook reopens, reapply:
- View > Reading Pane > Right
- View > Change View > Compact

I hope this helps bring your inbox back to normal. Please try the steps and let me know if the issue is resolved. If not, I’ll be happy to continue troubleshooting with you.
