Text cursor randomly jumps to the start of the line or text box while typing

Hello everyone,

I am facing a very frustrating issue on my Windows PC where the text cursor unexpectedly behaves as if the left arrow or up arrow keys are being held down. While I am in the middle of typing, the cursor suddenly jumps to the very beginning of the line or text field.

Because of this, my newly typed characters end up inserted at the start of the sentence instead of where I intended. Additionally, the left arrow key becomes erratic or fails to respond properly to manual control while this is happening.

Important Details:

  • No Hardware Issues: I have ruled out physical keyboard damage; the keys are clean and not stuck.
  • Intermittent behavior: This happens randomly but lasts for a long time once it starts, making typing nearly impossible.
  • App-wide: It occurs in multiple applications, including browsers and text editors.
  • Phantom Trigger: The cursor moves even when I am not touching the keyboard.

This problem usually occurs on a laptop with a touchpad, are you using a PC with a mouse or a laptop?

    Open the Settings App.

Go to the Mouse and Touchpad settings, check for any sensitivity settings or palm-check setting, and decrease any available sensitivity setting, and if there is a palm-check setting, enable that.

If that does not resolve the problem.

Open Command Prompt, then paste in this command and press Enter:

    msdt.exe -id KeyboardDiagnostic

Run that Keyboard Troubleshooter to see if that can solve the problem.

    .

If that does not resolve the problem.

    Open Device Manager

    Expand the Keyboards section

Right click your keyboard and choose 'Uninstall'

    Then restart your PC
