    Hi ,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out.

The screenshot shows Windows 11 Insider Preview 29639.1000 (rs_prerelease) rather than a regular KB update, so manual installation through the Microsoft Update Catalog may not be available.

First, go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update > Run. Restart the computer and try the update again.

If it still fails after following the previously provided steps, please click Start > Run winver and share a screenshot, along with your selected channel under Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program.

    0x80070005 indicates permissions error.

Please run Windows Update troubleshooter from Settings app > Update & security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Let us know what it reports back.

    Thank you for the update.

If you tried installing these updates with an admin account and also the repair and Windows Update reset steps did not resolve the issue, the next option is an in-place repair upgrade using an official Windows Insider ISO.

Back up your important files first, then download an Insider ISO from:

    https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewiso

Only use build 29639.1000 or later. Mount the ISO, run setup.exe as administrator, and select Keep personal files and apps.

Thank you for the screenshots. Your installed Insider build is 29617.1000, which expires today. Therefore, the message saying you have the latest build should not be relied upon in this case.

Build 29639.1000 is the correct newer Insider build and includes the renewed Insider certificate. Please back up your important files first, then follow the previously provided troubleshooting steps and check for updates again.

The screenshot also shows Queued for unenrollment. If you want to continue receiving Insider builds, expand Stop getting preview builds and cancel the unenrollment, then restart the computer and check for updates.

If you want to leave the Insider Program immediately, you may need to back up your files and perform a clean installation of the stable Windows 11 release. Queued unenrollment does not immediately convert the current preview build into a stable version.

Error 0x80070005 is an Access denied error. For Windows Update, the supported fixes are to repair permissions, reset Windows Update components, and repair the component store.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Open Command Prompt as administrator.
    2. Reset permissions on the Windows component store:
    icacls "%windir%\WinSxS" /reset /t /c /q
    icacls "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution" /reset /t /c /q

    1. Restart the PC and try the update again.
    2. If it still fails, in the same elevated Command Prompt, make sure TrustedInstaller owns the WinSxS folder:
    icacls "%windir%\WinSxS" /setowner "NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller" /t /c /q

    1. Restart the PC and try the update again.
    2. If it still fails, reset Windows Update components:
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    net stop cryptSvc

    ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    ren %windir%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

    net start cryptSvc
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv

    1. Restart the PC and try the update again.
    2. If it still fails, repair the component store:
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    1. Restart and try Windows Update again.

    Additional supported checks for 0x80070005:

    • Temporarily disable real-time antivirus protection during installation, because access-denied errors can be caused by security software.
    • If the issue continues after the steps above, contact Microsoft Support.

Warning: the reset steps rename Windows Update cache folders and change system folder permissions. Run the commands exactly as shown in an elevated Command Prompt.
