Additional meeting and call-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Dear @Jeremias Matthies
For Teams meetings that exceed the standard interactive participant capacity (approximately 1,000 attendees), additional participants join using the view-only experience. In this mode, attendees can watch and listen to the meeting but have limited access to meeting features
Regarding Language Interpretation, attendees who join through the view-only experience are not able to access interpreter channels. As a result, View-only attendees can only see Live Captions on Desktop and Web. Only English captions are supported at this time. And they will hear the original meeting audio (floor language) rather than an interpreted audio channel. For reference: Teams view-only meeting experience
Therefore, if your meeting is expected to exceed 1,000 attendees and interpretation is required for all participants, you may want to consider alternative event formats and perform testing in advance to ensure the experience meets your requirements.
If interpretation is not mandatory, Teams offers captioning and translated captions capabilities that may help attendees follow the meeting content in their preferred language. Availability depends on licensing and event type. For reference: Use live captions in Microsoft Teams meetings
Note:
Live translated captions in meetings are available as part of Teams Premium and Microsoft 365 Copilot, an add-on license that provides additional features to make Teams meetings more personalized, intelligent, and secure. To get access to an eligible license, contact your IT admin.
If the meeting organizer has a Teams Premium or Microsoft 365 Copilot license, all meeting participants can use translated captions and transcription without a specific license required.
If individual participants have a Teams Premium or Microsoft 35 Copilot license, only those licensed participants will see the Translate to option and can use translated captions and transcription.
Moreover, Teams Town Hall also is designed for large-scale events and supports significantly larger audiences than standard meetings. Depending on your licensing and event configuration, this may help avoid attendees being pushed into the view-only overflow experience. For reference: Get started with town hall in Microsoft Teams
