From MS Edge I am unable to get to my finance sites (banks etc) which just time out although I can access all other sites. My wife can access these finance sites from her Apple MAC. What is the issue causing this?

    Hi,

It is always the DNS :)

Please copy and paste this address into the address bar of MS Edge:

    edge://settings/privacy/security?search=DNS

Change it to CloudFlare and let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.

Likely causes are a site-specific compatibility or security issue in Edge, corrupted cached site data, an extension interfering with sign-in, network problems, or outdated Edge/security software. Since other sites work and the finance sites time out, use this troubleshooting path:

    1. Test in InPrivate mode
      • Open an InPrivate window and try one of the finance sites.
      • If it works there, the problem is likely cached data or an extension.
    2. Clear browsing data
      • In Edge, go to Settings and more > History > Open history page > Delete browsing data.
      • Set Time range to All time.
      • Clear Browsing history and Cached images and files.
      • If needed, clear all browsing data.
      • Then retry the site.
    3. Disable extensions
      • Temporarily disable unnecessary extensions, especially privacy, ad-blocking, or script-blocking extensions.
      • Retry the finance sites.
    4. Update Edge
      • Go to Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
      • Install any available update, then restart Edge.
    5. Check whether the site opens in another browser on the same Windows 11 PC
      • If it also fails there, the issue may be with the PC’s network, security software, or the website’s handling of that device.
      • If it works in another browser, the issue is more specific to Edge.
    6. Restart the PC and network equipment
      • Restart the computer.
      • If needed, restart the modem and router.
    7. Check security software
      • If third-party security software is installed, make sure it is fully up to date.
      • Security filtering can interfere with banking and finance sites.
    8. Repair Edge
      • Close Edge.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Select Microsoft Edge > Modify > Yes > Repair.
      • This should not affect browser data and settings.
    9. If the issue started after an update and affects multiple sites
      • A network reset can help:
      • Open Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
      • Select Reset now and restart the PC.
      • Note: this resets network adapters and related settings.

If the finance sites fail in all browsers on that Windows 11 PC but work on another device, the issue is more likely local to the PC rather than the websites themselves.
