    1

Go to the Activation Settings window.

Click the Troubleshoot button, then select 'I changed my hardware'.

Are you able to use that process to move the Windows licence form the old motherboard to the new hardware.

    2

If not, where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the PC or did you purchase a full retail Windows licence from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer, and if so, do you have the product key?

Or is your Windows licence based on a previous Windows 7 or 8 licence?

    3

Click your Start Button, type cmd then right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run or paste this command and hit Enter:

    slmgr.vbs /dlv

Please post a screenshot of the resulting dialog

A motherboard replacement is treated as a significant hardware change, so Windows 11 Pro may no longer find the license tied to the old hardware.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check activation status and edition
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
      • Confirm the installed edition is Windows 11 Pro.
      • If the edition does not match the license, activation will fail.
    2. If the license was linked to a Microsoft account, run the Activation troubleshooter
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was linked to the digital license.
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation > Troubleshoot.
      • Select I changed hardware on this device recently.
      • Sign in if prompted.
      • From the device list, select the old device, check This is the device I’m using right now, then select Activate.
    3. If there is a product key, enter it again
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation > Change product key.
      • Enter the 25-character Windows 11 Pro key.
    4. If error 0xC004F211 or 0xC004F213 appears
      • These errors indicate Windows detected a hardware change or could not find a product key on the device.
      • Use Activation > Troubleshoot or enter the previous product key under Change product key.
    5. If error 0xC004C008 appears
      • This can mean the product key was already used on another device.
      • If there was a substantial hardware change and there is a valid product key, phone activation can be tried:
        • Press Windows key + R
        • Type SLUI 04
        • Follow the on-screen instructions
      • Note: Windows 11 Pro EDU and Windows 11 Pro for Workstations must be activated over the internet; SLUI 04 cannot be used for those editions.
    6. If Windows came preinstalled on the old motherboard
      • If Windows was preinstalled by the PC manufacturer and the motherboard was replaced, reactivation may not be possible with the old license.
      • If the original hardware manufacturer replaced the motherboard, the device should reactivate automatically. If not, use the COA product key if one was provided.
    7. If the troubleshooter does not show the old device
      • Make sure the same Microsoft account is being used that was previously associated with the digital license.

If none of the above works, the next step is to contact Microsoft customer support.
