I am a home user with a mac.

I have a personal subscription to Microsoft 365 through Apple. I been unable to use Word for about a week - I can see and open old files but I cannot edit or save or create new documents.

When I go to my account I keep getting a 0x0 error / Unable to associate your purchase.

I have updated my macOS to the latest (Tahoe) and I have updated all Microsoft latest software.

I have spent all afternoon on the phone to Apple support - speaking with 2 separate technicians. They have remotely checked my Mac and confirmed that there are no issues with my subscription (payment is up to date) and my device is fine and all up to date. They can do no more and told me to contact 'Microsoft Support' They did mention that they had had some callers with similar Microsoft issues recently that they were unable to resolve.

I cannot find a way to speak to anyone at Microsoft and spent ages on the troubleshooting pages with no results.

What else can I do to reactive activate office without getting a 0x0 error please.

I am not young and currently organising a home move which is challenging enough without software issues which leave me severely unable to communicate as usual electronically.

Can I please request some urgent assistance from Microsoft

This 0x0 error is caused by the July update, it is widely reported.

If you have a valid subscription to Microsoft 365 and your MacOS version is Tahoe, the working method to resolve the 0x0 error is to completely uninstall Office using the steps provided on this link, then download and reinstall Office.

Because the subscription was purchased through Apple, the most relevant causes are a purchase-association problem or a sign-in mismatch between the Apple purchase and the Microsoft account used in Word.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Sign out of all Office apps
      • Close Word and any other Office apps.
      • Reopen Word and sign out if it is still signed in.
    2. Sign back in with the Microsoft account that was used when the Apple purchase was first associated
      • Error 1303 occurs when the App Store purchase is already associated with a different Microsoft account.
      • If more than one Microsoft account exists, try the one that was in use when Microsoft 365 was originally purchased or first activated.
    3. Restore the Apple purchase inside Office
      • For App Store purchases, Microsoft directs affected users to use Restore previous purchase for Office for Mac.
      • This is specifically recommended for payment/association errors such as code1007 and 1303.
    4. Confirm the Apple subscription is still active
      • Apple already confirmed payment is current, but Microsoft’s documented step is to verify the Microsoft 365 subscription is active on the Apple subscriptions page.
      • If active, continue with the restore-purchase step above.
    5. Update only through the App Store if Office was installed from the App Store
      • Since the subscription is through Apple, use App Store > Updates and update Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote there.
      • Microsoft’s 0x0 / License Not Found guidance for App Store installs is to update from the App Store, then test again.
    6. Check the Microsoft account license page if sign-in still fails
      • Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      • Select Install Microsoft 365 or Office.
      • If a license is listed there, that is the correct Microsoft account to use in Word.
      • If no Office license appears, that usually means the wrong Microsoft account is being used for activation.
    7. If Word still shows “Unable to associate your purchase,” contact Microsoft Support
      • Microsoft’s documented guidance for both code1007 and 1303 is to contact Microsoft Support if the restore step does not fix it.
      • Apple has already confirmed the subscription and device state, so the remaining issue is likely the Microsoft-side association of the Apple purchase to the Microsoft account.

    What fits this case best:

    • 0x0 on Mac can be resolved by updating, but that has already been done.
    • The message “Unable to associate your purchase” points more directly to the Apple-purchase association issue than to a macOS or Office version issue.
    • Since macOS is current and Office is updated, the next best documented path is:
      1. sign out,
      2. sign in with the original Microsoft account,
      3. run Restore previous purchase,
      4. if still failing, contact Microsoft Support.
