There is no in-place downgrade from Microsoft 365 Family to an individual plan in the provided guidance. The supported path is to cancel the Family subscription, let it expire, and then subscribe to the individual plan.
Steps to cancel the Microsoft 365 Family subscription:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that purchased the subscription.
- Select Manage for the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
- Select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel.
- Follow the prompts to complete cancellation.
Important details:
- If Turn on recurring billing appears instead of Manage or Cancel, the subscription is already set to expire on the shown date. No further action is required, and it can be used until it expires.
- If the subscription was purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and refund must be handled through that store.
- After cancellation, storage returns to 5 GB of cloud storage and 15 GB of Outlook.com storage.
- For Family subscriptions, people sharing the subscription also lose their added storage and other subscription benefits.
- If storage usage is above the free allowance, new OneDrive uploads, edits, or sync can be blocked, Outlook.com email can stop working, and OneDrive files may later be deleted.
- In some countries, cancellation may qualify for a prorated refund.
After the Family subscription expires, subscribe to the individual plan wanted.
