Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi Fred Williams,
I understand that messages return to the Drafts folder after you select Send in new Outlook for Windows.
Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access your account or examine its connection to the mail provider.
The Q&A Assist answer includes some relevant checks, particularly for attachments and mailbox storage. Have you had a chance to try those applicable steps? Please disregard the Send/Receive and Work Offline instructions, as those are intended for classic Outlook rather than new Outlook.
I would also like to add the following checks without repeating the earlier suggestions:
- In new Outlook, select View > Sync, wait for synchronization to finish, and then try sending a short test message. New Outlook provides this command for manually checking for new mail and sending pending messages. I can't send or receive messages in Outlook
- If the email account password was recently changed through the provider’s website, look for a sign-in prompt beside the account name and complete the sign-in again. New Outlook may require the updated credentials before it can send messages.
- Sign in to the email provider’s webmail and send a test message there. If webmail sends successfully, this helps narrow the behavior to new Outlook. If webmail also cannot send, the account or mail service may require attention.
Could you confirm whether the account is Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, or another provider, and whether any notification appears after you select Send? Please do not post the full email address.
I hope this helps narrow down why the messages are returning to Drafts.
