Bing Places: Unable to verify business because incorrect phone number is the only verification option

I am trying to claim and verify our business listing through Bing Places for Business, but I am stuck in a verification loop because the phone number currently associated with the listing is incorrect.

The current phone number displayed on our Bing business listing is not the correct number for our property, and we therefore cannot receive the verification call/SMS. I need the contact number to be manually corrected before I can complete verification.

I have already:

  • Signed into Bing Places for Business with the Microsoft account that should manage the listing.
  • Attempted to claim and verify the business.
  • Confirmed that the verification options available to me rely on the incorrect phone number.
  • Tried contacting Bing Places Support through the official support page.
  • Confirmed that, for South Africa, the Bing Places support page only provides the email address placesfeedback@microsoft.com.
  • Contacted that email address, but I have not received a response.

I am therefore unable to verify ownership because the incorrect information is preventing me from completing the verification process.

Could a Microsoft/Bing Places representative please advise how I can obtain manual or alternative verification, or have the incorrect phone number manually corrected so that I can complete the ownership verification?

I can provide documentation proving that we manage the business, including official business documentation, website/domain information and other supporting evidence if required.

I would appreciate assistance from the Bing Places team because the normal verification process cannot be completed with the information currently attached to the listing.

This appears to be a known type of verification issue. A similar Microsoft Q&A case is here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5768773/how-to-correct-information-on-bing

Thank you.

    Hi Leeu Marketing,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into this situation. I completely understand how frustrating it must be to be unable to verify and manage your business listing because the only verification option relies on an incorrect phone number.

I genuinely wish I could help further, but please note that Microsoft Q&A is primarily a community forum made up of fellow users and contributors. We do not have access to Bing Places back-end systems, cannot modify business listings, cannot perform manual verification, and have no authority to intervene in or expedite the progress of support cases.

Unfortunately, since this issue appears to require access to Bing Places records and verification processes, it can only be investigated and resolved by the Bing Places support team.

    • Signing in to your Bing Places for Business account at Bing Places for Business
    • Click the three dots next to your account icon and select Help.
    • Navigate to Contact Support in the left-hand menu.

I recommend continuing to work directly with Bing Places Support through the official support channels. Be sure to provide any supporting documentation available, or other evidence that demonstrates your connection to the business, as this may assist them in reviewing alternative verification options.

I realize this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but because this requires a back-end review of the listing, Bing Places Support is the only team that can take action on the account and verification details.

I hope you're able to get in touch with the appropriate team and have the listing corrected soon. Best of luck with your case.
