    Hi Mark,

If you open Teams > Settings (or press Ctrl + Shift + ,) > Devices, you’ll see which microphone is currently selected. Try switching it to another available option (for example, if you have both a built‑in mic and a headset), and while you speak, watch the small input level bar, if it moves, that means Teams is detecting your voice. If it stays flat, then Teams isn’t receiving any audio from that device.

There’s also a ‘Make a test call’ option in Teams Settings, which can be helpful, it lets you record your voice and play it back immediately, so you can confirm whether Teams is actually picking up your microphone.

It’s also worth quickly testing the microphone outside of Teams, for example with your system’s voice recorder. If your voice isn’t picked up there either, that points to a system or hardware issue rather than something specific to Teams.

Another simple check is whether the microphone might be muted somewhere else, sometimes on a headset, keyboard button, or at the system level, or temporarily in use by another app in the background.

If you have access to Teams on your phone, it can also help to try a quick call there. If your audio works fine on mobile, that usually confirms the issue is limited to your computer’s microphone setup. If the same problem happens on mobile as well, then it may be something related to your account or device configuration more broadly.

I hope this provides enough clarity and helps you stay inform with your current situation.

However, if these steps don’t match your situation, please feel free to share more details. I’d be happy to look into this further and help you find a solution.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

If people cannot hear the voice in a meeting or call, check the microphone path first:

    1. Make sure the microphone is not muted in the meeting. In Lync, select the Phone/Mic button to unmute.
    2. In the meeting window, point to Phone/Mic and open the DEVICES tab. Confirm the correct microphone is selected.
    3. In the main app window, go to Options > Audio device, select the microphone to use, and adjust the mic volume.

If the microphone still is not working, check Windows audio settings:

    1. Make sure the input device is enabled.
      • Windows 11: Start > Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings > Recording tab > select the device > Properties > confirm Device usage is set to Use this device (enable).
      • Windows 10: Start > Settings > System > Sound > select the audio device > Device properties > make sure Disable is cleared.
    2. If multiple audio devices are connected, select the correct one and set the needed device as default where applicable.
    3. If the microphone or headset is USB-connected, plug it directly into the PC instead of a USB hub, or try a different USB port.
    4. Unplug the device, restart the PC, and plug it back in.
    5. Check whether the device is disabled in Windows:
      • Start > Control Panel > search for Sound.
      • Right-click in the device list and make sure Show Disabled Devices is selected.
      • If the microphone is disabled, right-click it and select Enable.
    6. In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes:
      • Start > Control Panel > search for Device Manager.
      • Select the computer name, then Action > Scan for hardware changes.
    7. Update or reinstall the audio driver if needed:
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    • Right-click the audio device and select Update driver.
    • If that does not help, uninstall the device and restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver automatically. Save open work before restarting.
    1. Install all available Windows Updates, then restart and test again.
