Hi, I'm Bernard. I'm happy to help!

Let us focus on the issue with the Windows update first. Is there any error message or code when you try to update your device? I'd appreciate it if you could provide a screenshot of the issue.

While waiting, can you also check the Windows version and edition you have?

    To check:

Go to Settings > System > About

Under Windows specifications, please let me know the Windows version and edition you have.

For Windows Update not completing to 100% and antivirus-related app detection issues, use this order:

    1. Restart the PC Some updates only finish after a restart. Save work, close apps, then select Start > Power > Update and restart or Update and shut down.
    2. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter In Windows 11, go to: Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update > Run
    3. Check whether Windows Update is running If updates are stuck or fail:
      • Press Win + R
      • Type services.msc and press Enter
      • Locate Windows Update
      • If it is stopped, open Properties, set Startup type to Automatic, then select Start
    4. Check free disk space Insufficient space can block updates. Windows requires at least:
      • 16 GB free for a 32-bit OS
      • 20 GB free for a 64-bit OS
    5. Temporarily disable third-party antivirus or firewall This can block both Windows Update and app launch checks.
      • Open the antivirus or firewall app from Start
      • Find the option to disable or pause protection
      • Choose a short duration such as 10 minutes or 1 hour
      • Update the antivirus software
If third-party security software is installed, it can also be temporarily uninstalled before updating, then reinstalled after the device is up to date. Warning: make sure the reinstall method and any product keys are available first.
    6. If the update cache is corrupted, reset Windows Update components Warning: this deletes the current Windows Update cache. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these commands one at a time:
         net stop bits
         net stop wuauserv
         ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak
         ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
         net start bits
         net start wuauserv

      Then restart the PC.
    7. If antivirus still appears enabled but apps think it is not If the device recently had update or security component issues, complete Windows Update first, then retry the work software. If a third-party antivirus is installed, temporarily disable or uninstall it during testing because antivirus and filter drivers can interfere with updates and software checks.

If the problem happens during a major Windows upgrade, disconnect nonessential external devices and temporarily uninstall antivirus software before retrying.
