Static Web Apps custom domain stuck in "Deleting" state — won't clear via Portal or CLI, blocking resource deletion and domain reuse

I have a custom domain (livspacefraud.site / www.livspacefraud.site) that got stuck in

"Deleting" status on multiple Static Web App resources in the same resource group. Each

hostname entry shows this error:

"An unknown error has occurred while adding your custom domain. Please try again later."

Status has been "Deleting" for over 24 hours and does not clear on its own.

What I've tried:

  • az staticwebapp hostname delete --hostname "<domain>" --name <app> --resource-group <rg> --yes Command completes without error, but az staticwebapp hostname list still shows the same entry stuck in "Deleting" afterward — no change.
  • Retrying from the Portal's custom domain page.

This is currently blocking two things:

  1. I can't fully delete the old/orphaned Static Web App resources that have this stuck hostname attached (deletion is blocked while the domain binding is present).
  2. The same domain (www.livspacefraud.site) is now also stuck in "Deleting" on my CURRENT active Static Web App, so I can't actually bind and use this custom domain on my live app.

Questions:

  1. Is there a way to force-clear a hostname binding that's stuck in "Deleting" state?
  2. Does deleting the parent Static Web App resource entirely bypass this, or does the stuck custom domain also block resource deletion?
  3. Is this a known backend issue, and is there a typical time it takes to self-resolve?

    Hi,

Can you retry deleting your custom domain now? I just retried mine and it successfully deleted after about 2-3 minutes. Previously it had been stuck for many hours.

Also, I was to able to add custom domain. It took a little longer than normal to complete, but it worked and I can view site using custom domain now.

Below is latest update from the Service issue DZXC-65Z:

    Service: Static Web Apps

    Region: Global

    Event tags: --

Impact Statement: Starting at 14:30 UTC on 11 August 2026, you have been identified as an affected customer using Azure Static Web Apps in multiple regions who may experience failures or delays when deleting custom domains for resources hosted in the region. At this time, the impact is limited to a subset of customers.

Current Status: Our teams have completed mitigation actions and are currently monitoring recovery progress. The issue was attributed to a backlog in the job queue responsible for custom domain deletion operations, which caused deployment requests to time out. Mitigation efforts included reducing the batch size of operations and stopping specific operations to accelerate queue recovery. Current telemetry indicates that the queue backlog is decreasing rapidly and is expected to reach a healthy state shortly.

Initial assessments indicate that custom domain creation and update workflows remain healthy, with the impact limited to delayed or failed custom domain deletion requests while the backlog was present.

We are validating recovery by monitoring system performance and confirming successful retries from affected customers.

The next update will be provided in 02 hours, or as events warrant.

    Thanks.

    -TP
